a belated birthday blessing

May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

what ifs

are not allowed

crying

I seem to well up extraordinarily easily. To be moved to tears instantly by the tiniest of passing moments. Today I nearly cried twice. Once in Trafalgar Square, reading the poems around the Oslo Christmas tree, then in Covent Garden when the girls in the string quartet played Pachelbel's Canon especially to me.

I think you'd have welled up a wee bit too.

lessons for learning

Almost exactly a year ago I wrote a lesson for my Terminale ES class at Lycée d'Arsonval in Brive based on Baz Luhrmann's track Everbody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen). At the time I felt like I was bringing them a bit of big-sisterly wisdom to their vocab and grammar learning. Now, listening to the track again I notice for the umpteenth time that it's full of good lessons and I hope one day I might learn some of them.

a ghost in my house

I could sleep
I could sleep
when I lived alone
is there a ghost in my house?
